Simon the Jar Merchant

The books known as the “New Testament” were originally written in Hebrew ans Aramaic and were later translated into Greek, Latin and other European languages.
There are some passages in the NT which do not make sense at all in Greek, but only begin to make sense when we look at them in Hebrew and Aramaic. For example this passage found in both Matthew and Mark:
And when Yeshua was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper,
(Mt. 26:6 = Mk. 14:3)
As any Bible student knows, lepers were not permitted to live in the city, as we read in the Torah:
43 Then the cohen shall look upon him. And behold, if the rising of the plague be reddish-white in his bald head, or in his bald forehead, as the appearance of leprosy in the skin of the flesh,
44 He is a leprous man; he is unclean. The cohen shall surely pronounce him unclean: his plague is in his head.
(Lev. 13:46 HRV)
Since ancient Hebrew and Aramaic were written without vowels, there was no distinction between the Aramaic words גרבא GAR’BA (leper), and גרבא GARABA (jar maker or jar merchant). Since in this story a woman pours oil from a jar, it is apparent that Simon was a jar merchant, or jar-maker, and not a leper.
